Why water is the foundation of good health


Water is life! The saying goes. Allow me to add, “Only if you choose the good quality water.”
Water is life because it supports photosynthesis which make our food. Without food we will all die. All animals need water to live. Our blood which acts as the transport network in our body is 90% water. You can imagine what would happen without adequate water in our system. Oxygen and nutrients will not get to the cells, the waste will not be transported to the disposal organs like kidneys and the skin. Do you know your kidneys requires 180 liters of water per day! We are certainly not drinking enough water for optimal health.

1. Water Protects Your Tissues, Spinal Cord, and Joints

Water does more than just quench our thirst and regulate our body temperature. It also keeps the tissues in the body moist. You know how it feels when your eyes, nose, or mouth gets dry? Keeping your body hydrated helps it retain optimum levels of moisture in these sensitive areas, as well as support blood, bones, and the brain. In addition, water helps protect the spinal cord. It acts as a lubricant cushion for our joints.


2. Water Helps the Body Remove Waste

 

Adequate water intake enables our body to excrete waste through perspiration, urination, and defecation. The kidneys and liver use massive volumes of water to help flush out waste, as do our intestines. Water can also keep you from getting constipated by softening your stool and helping move the food you’ve eaten through your intestinal tract. However, it should be noted that there is no evidence to prove that increasing fluid intake alone will cure constipation. But ensure to drink enough water through this holiday.


3. Water Aids in Digestion

 

Digestion starts with saliva, the basis of which is water. Digestion relies on enzymes that are found in saliva to help break down food and to dissolve minerals and other nutrients. Proper digestion makes minerals and nutrients more accessible to the body. Water is also necessary to help you digest soluble fiber. With the help of water, this fiber dissolves easily and benefits bowel health by making well-formed soft stool that are easy to pass.


4. Water is the cure for Dehydration

 

Your body loses fluids when you engage in vigorous exercise, sweat in high heat, or come down with a fever or contract an illness that causes vomiting or diarrhea. If you’re losing fluids for any of these reasons, it’s important to increase your fluid intake so that you can restore your body’s natural hydration levels. Your doctor may also recommend that you drink more fluids to help treat other health conditions like bladder infections and urinary tract stones. If you’re pregnant or nursing, it is advisable to consult your physician about your fluid intake because your body will be using more fluids than usual, especially if you’re breastfeeding.


5. It regulates body temperature.


Staying hydrated is crucial to maintaining body temperature. Your body loses water through sweat during physical activity and in hot environments.
Sweat keeps our body cool, but the body temperature will rise if you don’t replenish the water we lose. This is because our body loses electrolytes and plasma when it’s dehydrated.
If you’re the type who sweat more than usual, make sure you drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.


6. It can help lose weight

A few studies have linked body fat and weight loss with drinking water in both overweight girls and men. This minimize fat uptake in the body and allows the liver ample environment to burn more fat.

 

7. It helps fight illness.


Drinking enough water can help prevent certain medical conditions. These include:
Constipation
Kidney stones
Exercise-induced asthma
Urinary tract infection
Hypertension
Water also helps the body easily absorb important vitamins, minerals, and nutrients from food, which improve our health.
There are many benefits that accrue from taking enough and the right quality of water. Do not wait to be thirsty to take water. This is entirely a lifestyle choice. Make sure you include this in you 2019 resolutions. Merry Christmas and happy New Year.
