Sleeping is an activity of the subconscious mind. It helps the brain and body to recuperate after a long day of work. Sleep is therefore a paramount activity for the body.

Good Sleep helps to re-energize the body’s cells, clear waste from the brain, support learning and boost the memory capacity. While the brain sleeps, it clears out harmful toxins, a process that reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s is the aggregate of symptoms that cause imbalances between memory, thinking and behavior. Its symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks. Sleep can greatly interfere with our daily life if not managed properly. Sometimes we wake up feeling tired, fatigued and very lazy instead of starting the day in high moods. Sleep is big business because all the 7.4 trillion people in the world must sleep for 6 – 8 hours daily if not more. From the house we sleep in to beds, mattresses, pillows and beddings, sleep is lucrative business. Here are some low hanging fruits anyone can pick with minimum effort;

(1) Choose the right mattress and pillows

It’s essential to have a comfortable and supportive mattress. Your mattress should be big enough for you and a partner to sleep on. Make sure to be replacing your mattress every 8 years at least. When lying on your back, you should be able to slide your hand between the mattress and your back not with too much force. Allow air to circulate under your mattress. This is solely to facilitate heating or cooling of the body during sleep.

(2) You can choose to supply high-quality beds and beddings to hotels and institutions

Choose high quality beddings to match the taste of your clients for maximum comfort. Some fabrics are better at regulating body temperature. For instance;
Cotton bed sheets are the most durable, soft and breathable. A higher thread count (350 or more) means it is softer and tender on the skin. Choose Egyptian, MicroCotton or Pima cotton for high end customers during cold season.
Silk is ideal for hot summer nights and for those with allergies. Satin feels nice, but not so breathable. Polyester is ideal for low budget customers and in institutions like schools and hospitals because they last a long time and low budget.

(3) Invest in providing accommodation

This can be a hotel, hostel or rental houses. You can also provide Airbnb facilities that do not require heavy investments. You can start by giving out that extra bedroom you may not be using. All you need to do is list it with Airbnb platform and wait for guests to come in. Keep the facility as natural and homely as possible to make guests give good reviews for other guests to want to come

(4) Massage, Exercise and Spa

There are many opportunities in body treatment and massage. A tired body with relaxed muscles makes for deep sleep. There are numerous opportunities in processes that prime the body for deep sleep. The rule of the thumb is do not do vigorous exercise close to bedtime. Follow the circadian clock in designing your workout regime. It is advisable to start the day with vigorous exercise to wake all the body cells and prime your vital organs for the day. Exercise assist the body to inhale adequate oxygen and expel carbon dioxide and other gases. Sweating is a good way to detoxify the body. This prepare the body for good sleep in the evening.
Treat your clients’ muscles to a spa, yoga or massage towards the evening.

Business opportunities in this area include providing training gear like gym equipment, training gear and costumes, taking people for outdoor activities like hikes (in Azima we do a hike on the 3rd Saturday of the month. You can also build a wellness center with a Spa, gym, yoga and muscular and tissue regeneration or supply the items used to treat the body in these facilities.
Tiring both your brain and your body during the day can be an effective way of getting to sleep well at night.

A poll by the National Sleep Foundation found that 83% of adults who did vigorous exercise during the day had fairly or very good sleep. In comparison, just 56% who didn’t do any exercise slept well. It does not cost you much to make exercise a routine
Not only does exercise naturally tire and prep you for a heavy sleep but it also helps combat stress, anxiety and depression. By helping your body relax and deal with mental turmoil, it also help you unwind and sleep better.
The choice is yours. Opportunities abound. You can treat yourself and make money from sleep.
